Jordan voices concern over crisis escalation in Yemen after Saleh's killing

AMMAN, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday voiced its concern over the crisis escalation in Yemen after the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh by Houthi rebels, state-run Petra news agency reported.

"The unfortunate development is part of a series of violent consequences of the Yemeni crisis since the coup against the legitimate government," said Mohammad Momani, Jordan's Minister of State of Media Affairs.

The minister added that such escalations represent an external and negative interference in the affairs of Yemen.

Jordan calls on all Yemeni parties and stakeholders to resort to dialogue in line with the Gulf initiative to address the crisis in the country.

Highlighting Jordan's keenness to achieve the unity and stability of Yemen, Momani said dialogue was the sole way to end the crisis.

Saleh, his relatives and senior aids were killed Monday, two days after the clashes first erupted between his loyalists and Houthis in the capital Sanaa on Saturday.

Saleh's party said in a statement that the war against Iranian-allied Houthis will continue until the recapture of the capital city. Enditem
