Kenya fires rugby 15s coach Paarwater

Xinhua,December 04, 2017 Adjust font size:

NAIROBI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya rugby 15s head coach Jerome Paarwater from South Africa has been fired.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) confirmed they had parted company with Paarwater in a statement on Monday.

Paarwater's sacking comes at a time Kenya also preparing for the 2019 World Cup qualifiers which start next year.

"Kenya Rugby has today confirmed the release of Jerome Paarwater from his role as head coach of the Simbas. The union's board acknowledged Paarwater's significant contribution to the Kenya Rugby Union, and in particular to the Simbas coaching and management team since his arrival in late 2012," the rugby team said in a statement.

In an interview to the press last week, Paarwater had indicated that Kenya definitely have a good chance of making it to 2019 World Cup in Japan but only if the players take their chances.

"The first hurdle is the African qualifiers where we have the best opportunity, and then the repechange," he said.

Paawater was appointed Simbas head coach in March 2013 following the partnership between KRU and Western Province Rugby Union of South Africa. Enditem
