CAPE TOWN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Monday:

-- The African National Congress (ANC) Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal Province has made a call for the revival of the ANC's defunct self-defence units (SDUs) to protect party leaders from escalating political murders.

ANCYL provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo said on Sunday that the league would present the proposal for SDUs at the ANC's provincial general council (PGC), which is being held on Monday and Tuesday in Durban. (Independent Online)

-- The Presidency on Sunday denied reports that the government will move South African Airways (SAA) out of National Treasury to the Department of Transport.

"The reports are incorrect. No such decision has been taken," it said in a statement. (Fin24)

-- With less than two weeks to go before the African National Congress (ANC) elects a new leadership, most provinces have made it clear that the race for the Presidency is firmly between Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and ANC MP Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

Gauteng was the latest province to nail its colors to the mast, with most branches endorsing Ramaphosa, joining the Northern Cape, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. (Eyewitness News) Enditem
