BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Gong Ke, head of Tianjin-based Nankai University, has been elected president of the Paris-based World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO), the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) said Saturday.

Gong, also an honorary member of CAST, is the first Chinese to hold the position since the organization was established 50 years ago, CAST said in a statement.

Gong said he will work to enable engineers worldwide to work together to create a sustainable future for humanity.

He will begin his mandate from 2019, according to the statement.

The WFEO is the largest international organization on engineering. China joined the organization in 1981. Enditem
