LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, with a history of 110 years, will open on Friday, displaying around 1,000 vehicles with latest technologies and kicking off the major auto show season in North America.
Ranging from design concepts to production models, auto makers from around the world bring their newest vehicles, mainly cars, to the Los Angeles Convention Center in the western U.S. state of California. Most of the new cars to be displayed at Los Angeles Auto Show will arrive in dealerships over the coming years.
As one of the world's largest auto shows, the 10-day event attracts around one million visitors each year.
At least 50 vehicles debuts are expected from dozens of auto makers, such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and Hyundai.
For example, with world premiere of four sports cars planned, Porsche is lighting the touch paper for an explosive unveiling at the auto show. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, the 718 Boxster GTS and the 718 Cayman GTS are each the flagship of their respective model lines, while the 911 Carrera T takes the role of puristic lightweight. In addition, the new generation of the Cayenne is celebrating its first outing in the United States.
The 2018 Hyundai Kona small crossover utility, Mercedes-AMG Project ONE are among the vehicles which make their North American debut at the auto show.
Among the sea of vehicles, electric cars are main attraction at this auto show.
Volkswagen unveils three I.D. electric concept vehicles, including the I.D. hatchback, the I.D Cocept and I.D. Crozz.
I.D. Crozz is shown in the U.S. for the first time. It's based on Volkswagen's all electric MEB platform and slated for sale in the North American market in 2020.
MINI presents the MINI Electric Concept- future generation technology with that unmistakable MINI feeling. It's a fully electric, zero-emissions vehicle designed for short city drives.
The BMW i8 with eDrive tech and Mercedes CLS 450 with new electrified EQ Boost powertrain also grab visitor's attention in their new skins.
China Hi-Tech Group Corporation's REDS EV prototype is one of the most interesting electric cars at the auto show. With a cartoon-like appearance, the alpha prototype is conceived by the talented former BMW design chief Chris Bangle.
"This is a new car for China, specifically for China's big cities," said Bangle.
"The inspiration comes from the needs of big city commuters and young people who need their own space," he told Xinhua, noting the design focused on how to meet the challenges drivers face in congested cities.
"The Chinese government places high importance on the development of new energy vehicles. China is making rapid progress in the industry," said Jiangan Wang, assistant president of the China Hi-Tech Group Corporation.
"We hope to present our latest electric car with unique design and modern technologies to North American consumers via Los Angeles Auto Show," he added. Enditem
