ISLAMABAD, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and three others injured when a blast went off in Pakistan's northwestern tribal area of South Waziristan on Thursday, local reports said.

The explosion hit a vehicle carrying tribal elders in Arokai area of South Waziristan, a tribal area located along Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The elders were members of a local pro-government peace militia and were heading for a meeting, Aaj News said.

Unknown militants blew up roadside planted explosives with a remote control and fled the scene, the report added.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The area was cordoned off by security forces for investigation. Enditem
