Training camp for talented gymnasts kicks off in central China

WUHAN, China, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A 10-day training camp for talented gymnasts kicked off on Wednesday with 144 gymnasts and 54 coaches from 19 provinces gathering in Wuhan, capital of China's Hubei province.

Sanctioned by the General Administration of Sports of China, the training camp aims to accelerate the building of a gymnastics team with talents for both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The camp features training practice, theory classes and seminar courses, and famous experts in both gymnastics and psychology will be invited to introduce to them the trend of gymnastics in both training and competition.

"The Chinese gymnastics team faces problems such as the shrinkage of talents reserve, the lack of top gymnasts and the low training standard at the grassroots. To win the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, our team needs to do a lot," said Miu Zhongyi, director of the Gymnastics Center of the General Administration.

On the team's relative good performance in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships last month, Miu considered it a slice of good luck.

"However, Tokyo Olympics will be the real challenge for our team as all gymnasts across the world will try their best," said Miu. Enditem
