BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.62 percent, at 3,317.19 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.25 percent lower at 10,944.10 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.96 percent to close at 1,770.30 points.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed lower by 109.22 points, or 1.8 percent, to a level of 5,952.13 on Thursday.

Some 359,139 transactions were booked, involving 24.3 billion copies of shares with a value of 13.8 trillion rupiah (about 1 billion U.S. Dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore shares closed 0.16 percent lower on Thursday, as market sentiment was hit by heavy selloff in technology stocks across the world.

U.S. stocks gave up early gains overnight to end mixed amid a selloff in key technology shares such as Apple and Amazon.com that dragged down major indexes. Semiconductor stocks fell led by Micron Technology, Lam Research Corporation and Applied Materials.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares closed higher Thursday with market sentiment boosted by gains of domestic demand-oriented shares.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 127.76 points, or 0.57 percent, from Wednesday at 22,724.96, its highest close since Nov. 9.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.93 points, or 0.33 percent, higher at 1,792.08.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,717.86 down 2.52 points or 0.15 percent, and the Emas was at 12,408.31 up 8.81 points or 0.07 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 446.48 points, or 1.51 percent, to 29,177.35 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,127.3 and 29,353.51. Turnover totaled 171.90 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 22.02 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 114.72 points on Thursday, up 0.77 points or 0.68 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 71.387 million shares worth some 1.070 trillion Vietnamese dong (some 47.7 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, an increase of 12.6 percent in volume and 23.2 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has ended lower on Thursday, after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced there will be a banking Royal Commission inquiry into the practices of the country's largest financial institutions.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 41.20 points or 0.69 percent at 5,969.90, while the broader All Ordinaries index sank 38.90 points or 0.64 percent at 6,057.20.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Thursday up 1.25 percent compared to the previous trading day.
