Two IS militants killed in eastern Afghan airstrikes

Xinhua,November 30, 2017 Adjust font size:

KABUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two militants of Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed in separate airstrikes in Achin District of Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Thursday, the command of Afghan Special Forces said.

Operational Coordination Group of Afghanistan (OCGA) said that the Afghan Special Forces struck an IS position at around noon Thursday, killing one IS fighter in Achin, and the second air raid attack came some 43 minutes later at the same district resulting in the death of another IS militant.

Achin is the stronghold of IS militants in the province, 120 km east of Kabul. It has been the scene of clashes between security forces and IS militants since early 2015.

The Afghan security forces and the NATO-led coalition forces intensified airstrikes against Taliban and IS militants across the mountainous country in recent months. Enditem
