Xinhua,November 30, 2017 Adjust font size:

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least three militants were killed Thursday in a fierce gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, defense officials said.

The gunfight erupted at village Fultipora-Pakharpora, Budgam district, about 44 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Three militants were killed today in a gunfight at Fultipora-Pakharpora," Indian army spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia told Xinhua. "The operation in the area is going on."

The gunfight was triggered after joint contingents of Indian military, paramilitary and police cordoned off the area on specific intelligence inputs about presence of militants.

The identities of slain militants were being ascertained.

According to officials, Indian police and army have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.

Six militants and an Indian air force (IAF) commando were killed in a recent similar gunfight in Bandipora district of the region.

A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region. Enditem
