SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A paramilitary trooper of India's Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) killed his wife and a couple on Thursday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The killings took place at the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Colony Shalimar in Kishtwar district, about 208 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Early today a CISF constable shot dead three people with his service rifle in Dul Hasti Hydro Electric Project Shalimar, Kishtwar," a police official at police control room (PCR) Jammu told Xinhua. "The slain included his wife, the colleague's wife and the colleague."
Police said they have initiated investigations into the incident and have taken a suspect into custody.
CISF troopers in India are mandated to provide security to major installations of India like nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, sensitive government buildings and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation etc.
Local media reports said extra-marital affair is believed to be the reason behind the killings.
Many incidents of suicides and fratricides among stationed troops across India-controlled Kashmir have been reported in the past.
Health experts say continued separation from family, long duty hours, lack of recreational facilities, poor command and control structure were usually found to be reasons behind such incidents. Enditem
