3 children killed in wall collapse in northern India

Xinhua,November 29, 2017 Adjust font size:

NEW DELHI, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least three children have been killed and two others injured in a wall collapse in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place at Sarthauli village in the state's Shahjahanpur district, some 180 km from state capital Lucknow.

"A group of children were playing in the vicinity when the wall of a compound collapsed on them while foundation was being laid for another wall," local police chief K.B. Singh told the media.

While three children, all aged below 12 years, died on the spot, the injured have been admitted to the district hospital, he said.

"The bodies have been sent for an autopsy. A probe has also been ordered into the incident," the official added.

Building and wall collapses are common in India because of use of sub-standard construction materials and lack of adherence to safety standards. Enditem
