Hazmat spill closes major highway in Houston

Xinhua,November 29, 2017 Adjust font size:

HOUSTON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- A crash involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle Tuesday caused a hazmat spill that closed part of an interstate highway in Houston, Texas, the United States.

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported due to the accident.

The Texas Department of Transportation officials said that only a small portion of the acid spilled from two containers on the tractor-trailer onto the highway, but crews must move the acid to new containers before the cleanup can begin.

Officials said the highway will remain closed until rush hour Tuesday, urging commuters to find a way home that avoids the accident area. Enditem
