Austrian tourism industry sees strong summer season

VIENNA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian tourism industry had a strong summer season this year, with the highest number of overnight stays seen since 1992, Statistics Austria stated in a preliminary report on Tuesday.

From May to October, the number of overnight stays increased 2.7 percent to reach 74.87 million.

The total number of guests also saw a strong 4.2-percent increase to reach 23.89 million.

German nationals were once again the largest group of guests through the season, their number of overnight stays increasing 3.5 percent to reach 27.8 million, or 37 percent of the total.

Strong increases in overnight stays were also reported for guests from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and the United States.

For the entire year up to October, there were 128.98 million overnight stays, a two-percent increase over the same period in 2016, the statistics office stated. Enditem
