Gambian court issues arrest warrant for "killers" of journalist

Xinhua, May 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

A lower court in the Gambian capital city Banjul on Thursday issued an arrest warrant for the alleged killers of the veteran journalist Deyda Hydara.

Hydara was murdered on 16 December, 2004 and the suspects were believed to be former army commander Kawsu Camara and soldier Sanna Manjang, who belong to an assassin team called "jungular", known for carrying out many heinous atrocities.

The court ruling came after the police alleged that the suspects conspired in 2004 to murder the journalist.

"It is further alleged that the duo unlawfully caused the death of journalist Deyda Hydara by shooting him with a gun on his forehead," said the magistrate.

The suspects are currently out of the country, but the police want them to be arrested and extradited to face justice in the Gambia. Endit
