The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported on Wednesday that some 300,000 boys and girls under the age of 18 were separated from their parents in more than 80 countries in 2015 and 2016 alone. UNICEF called for international agreements and measures to protect young people in flight or migration.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel on Wednesday visited Washington for the second time to talk to his U.S. colleague. The meeting focused on Syria, Iraq and Ukraine and Turkey.
