Benin's government plans to convert the country into "a platform of digital services for the West Africa by 2021," an official on Wednesday said in the economic capital Cotonou .

Mrs. Rafiatou Monrou, Benin's minister of digital economy and communication, made this public in a statement as part of the World telecommunication and information society day (WTISD)'s celebration on Wednesday.

She believes the "Big data for Big impact" as theme of the WTISD's celebration in 2017 is well in line with the vision of Benin's President Patrice Talon for digital economy sector.

"The sectoral strategy is intended to transform Benin into a platform of digital services, speed up growth and social inclusion by 2021," Mrs. Rafiatou Monrou said.

She underscored this is to ensure in Benin a nationwide and affordable prices access to Internet, a systematic and stepwise establishment of national park that is likely to enable over 3,000 km installed fibre optics by 2019.

According to this Benin official, the project is in process of finalization and its implementation is a landmark achievement in the sector of the digital economy.

Rafiatou Monrou said the project will undoubtedly reinforce the broad band connection for mega data of all Internet connected cities in Benin. Endit
