Afghan president signs decree to issue electronic national ID cards

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has signed a decree ordering distribution of computerized national identity cards, a local media outlet reported on Monday.

"President Ashraf Ghani has ordered the distribution of electronic identity cards," Ariana News reported, quoting a statement of the press office of the second vice president.

According to the statement, President Ghani officially signed the decree on Saturday.

Afghan nationals are still using paper ID cards which are easy to be counterfeited. Endit
