Ukraine's farm produce exports sharply up in first quarter

Xinhua, May 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's export of agricultural products jumped by 38.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2017 to 4.6 billion U.S. dollars, the country's agriculture ministry said Monday.

The export growth was driven by the increased overseas demand for sunflower oil, corn, wheat, soybeans and sugar, the ministry said in a statement.

In the first quarter of this year, Asian countries were top export destinations for Ukrainian agricultural products, accounting for 44.4 percent of the total sales. They were followed by the European Union states and African countries with a market share of 28.6 percent and 18 percent respectively.

Ukraine's sales of agricultural products amounted to 15.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2016, taking up 42.5 percent of the country's total exports. Endi
