Natural disasters kill 23 in China in April

Natural disasters caused the deaths of 23 people in April in China, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction.

Over 11,000 people were displaced, the two authorities said in a statement Friday.

In addition, over 1,000 houses collapsed and more than 13,500 houses were damaged. About 112,000 hectares of crops were affected, with more than 6,500 hectares destroyed, according to the statistics.

The statement said natural disasters in April have caused 990 million yuan (143 million U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses. Endi
