Chinese stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.72 percent to end the day at 3,083.51 points.
The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent higher at 9,787.99 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, ended 0.12 percent higher to close at 1,774.63 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as Wall Street's losses overnight weighted on market sentiment here with a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar also zapping sentiment as cooperate earnings are still being eyed.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 77.65 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 19,883.90.

MANILA -- The Philippine stock market succumbed to profit takers on Friday despite the local central bank's decision to keep rates unchanged.
The bellwether Philippine Stock Exchange index lost 0.01 percent or 0.87 of a point to 7,815.53, while the broader all-share index slipped by 0.19 percent or 8.62 points to 4,648.26.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a negative note Friday. Equity benchmarks trimmed losses in late trade.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 30,188.15, 62.83 points or 0.21 percent down compared to its previous close at 30,250.98.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore shares closed 0.48 percent lower on Friday, after U.S. stocks fell on Thursday amid political uncertainty in Washington.
Wall Street was also dragged by drops in share prices of several large department stores which reported worse-than-expected sales declines.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Friday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 10.35 points, or 0.45 percent, to settle at 2,286.02. Trading volume stood at 329.62 million shares worth 6.3 trillion won (5.6 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
