Tokyo stocks close lower tracking Wall Street's losses, firm yen weighs

Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as Wall Street's losses overnight weighted on market sentiment here with a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar also zapping sentiment as cooperate earnings are still being eyed.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 77.65 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 19,883.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 6.15 points, or 0.39 percent, to end at 1,580.71.

Nonferrous metal, real estate and transportation equipment-related shares were among those that declined the most, with declining issues outnumbering advancing ones by 1,140 to 734 on the First Section.

Trading volume on the main section on Friday came to 2,248.62 million shares, rising from Thursday's volume of 2,292.02 million shares.

The turnover on the final trading day of the week totaled 2,964.5 billion yen (26.05 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
