1st LD: U.S.-led airstrike kills 11 in Syria's Raqqa

Xinhua, May 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

At least 11 people were killed and nine others wounded on Thursday by a fresh U.S.-led airstrike on the northern province of Raqqa, pro-government al-Watan online newspaper reported.

The airstrike targeted one of the villages in the northern countryside of Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS terror group, said the report.

The report said all those killed were civilians.

The airstrike is the latest in a string of similar strikes that claimed the lives of civilians in the process of targeting IS positons.

A day earlier, at least 10 civilians were killed by U.S.-led airstrike against the town of Sour in the countryside of the eastern province of Deir al-Zour.

The U.S.-led anti-terror coalition has also been backing the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their push against the IS positions in Deir al-Zour and Raqqa province.

The coalition previously acknowledged the falling of civilian victims by the airstrikes on IS-held areas in Syria. Endit
