A tropical cyclone warning is now in force for Fiji in Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands as gale force winds are predicted to start affecting these areas from Friday.

Category two Tropical Cyclone Ella had moved further North on Thursday and is expected to affect mostly Vanua Levu, Cikobia and the neighboring islands in the Fiji Group. (Fiji-Cyclone Ella)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan on Thursday said that a civilian was killed and two others injured when Indian forces shelled different villages in Pakistan-administered Kashmir overnight.

The Foreign Ministry said that "ceasefire violations" by India continued along the line of control (LoC) in Tandar, Sabzkot, Khuiratta, Baron, Bagsar and Khanjar Sectors in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir. (Pakistan-India-Firing)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in called on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to face up to history during the first telephone conversation between the two leaders.

Senior presidential press secretary Yoon Young-chan told a press conference Thursday that Moon held the phone conversation with Abe for about 25 minutes in the afternoon. (South Korea-Japan-Ties)

SARI PUL, Afghanistan -- Eight Taliban militants were killed after Afghan army personnel launched a cordon and search operation in the country's northern province of Sari Pul, an army source said on Thursday.

"Some five militants were also injured during the clashes in the raid which was launched in surrounding areas of Sayyad district Wednesday. But no civilian or army soldier were hurt during the operation," a press officer of army's Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Militants)

NEW DELHI -- Defiant judge of Calcutta high court Justice Chinnaswamy Swaminathan Karnan has gone into hiding after India's top court sentenced him to six months jail term, officials said Thursday.

On Tuesday Supreme Court of India held Justice Karnan for its contempt and asked Police Chief of West Bengal to arrest him immediately. However, police officials said Justice Karnan was evading the arrest since then.

Justice Karnan flew to southern Chennai city on Tuesday morning, hours before the Supreme Court pronounced its judgement against him. (India-Defiant Judge-Hiding) Endit
