American boy breaks record for most retweet

Xinhua, May 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

A 16-year-old student named Carter Wilkerson has fulfilled his wish, getting free chicken nuggets from Wendy' s for a year after he engaged more than 3.5 millions of retweets.

He twisted early this Tuesday on his twitter that "We did it guys! Thanks to your help and support we were able to raise $100k for @DTFA and beat @TheEllenShow record! Now let's get 18mil!"

Thousands of people said congrats to him on Twitter, and some encouraged him to get 18 million retweets.

The Twitter marketing team congratulated Wilkerson as well, saying "Congrats @carterjwm! Your call for a year supply of nuggets from @Wendys has officially become the most Retweeted Tweet of all time!"

Wilkerson's tweet broke the record for retweeted tweet made by the famous talkshow star Ellen DeGeneres in 2014 for her famous Oscar selfie, which engaged 3.42 millions retweets.

"It'd be pretty cool to put on my college applications that I'm the No. 1 retweeted tweet of all time," he told The New York Times. Now he has 109,000 followers on Twitter.

On April 5, Wilkerson asked Wendy's on Twitter how many retweets were needed to get him a year's supply of free chicken nuggets, Wendy's casually replied it would be 18 million retweets for that.

Then Carter made a plea on Twitter for retweeting. Just one month later, he got his wish come true, though it did not reach 18 million retweets.

Fox 11 reported that in order to celebrate Wilkerson's surprising achievement, Wendy's announced they would donate 100,000 dollars to charity. Endi
