U.S. may join Normandy format group on Ukraine crisis: media

Xinhua, May 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

The United States may join the Normandy format group whose aim is to solve the crisis in eastern Ukraine, local media reported Wednesday, citing Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson may join the group of the Normandy Four foreign ministers, Klimkin told Ukrainian reporters during his visit to Washington, noting that Tillerson is well aware of the situation in Ukraine.

"He understands not just the logic of our common stand in general but is also aware of details," Klimkin said.

The Normandy format, also known as the Normandy Four, is a diplomatic group of senior representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France tasked to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine between government troops and pro-independence rebels, which has claimed about 10,000 lives since April 2014.

Klimkin arrived in Washington on May 8 for a three-day working visit. Endi
