Sri Lankan refugees return from south India

A group of Sri Lankan refugees returned from south India on Tuesday, the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation and Resettlement said.

A spokesman for Minister D.M Swaminathan said that 16 Sri Lankan refugees returned and were greeted by officials at the main international airport outside Colombo.

The spokesperson said that over the past two weeks, 56 Sri Lankan refugees had returned to the country from India.

The refugees were among thousands who had fled Sri Lanka during a 30-year conflict between Tamil Tiger rebels and the military.

The spokesperson at the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation and Resettlement said that mobile connections are given to the refugees so they can keep in touch with their family members till they reach home.

He also said that arrangements are made to resettle all the refugees who return to the country. Endit
