Tokyo stocks edge lower in morning as investors sell to secure gains

Tokyo stocks retreated marginally on Tuesday morning as investors sold issues to secure gains after the market jumped more than 2 percent on Monday.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 15.72 points, or 0.08 percent lower, from Monday to 19,879.98.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.92 points, or 0.12 percent, to 1,583.94.

Iron and steel, marine transportation and transportation equipment-linked stocks comprised those that retreated the most by the morning break. Endit
