Tokyo stocks open marginally lower as investors lock in gains

Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower on Tuesday as investors opted to lock in gains made the previous day following the market surging more than 2 percent.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 18.62 points, or 0.09 percent lower from Monday to 19,877.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.87 points, or 0.12 percent, to 1,583.99.

Fishery, agriculture and forestry, iron and steel, and nonferrous metal-linked stocks comprised those that retreated the most in early trade. Endit
