Xinhua, May 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ethiopia said on Monday that its Genale Dawa III hydropower project is expected to start generating electricity in September, boosting power supply to Africa's second most populous nation.

A statement by Bizuneh Tolcha, director of public relations and communications from the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity of Ethiopia, said the project is 91 percent complete.

Located in southeastern Ethiopia, the 254 MW project is being built by China Gezhouba Group Company.

Ethiopia now has an installed electricity generating capacity of 4,200 MW, and it plans to increase it to 17,300 MW by 2020. Endit
