Bangladesh's total goods export income in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year ending next month grew about 4 percent year on year to nearly 29 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Monday.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official told Xinhua that the country earned a total of 28,721.71 million dollars from exports during July-April compared to 27,637.22 million dollars in the same period a year earlier.

Bangladesh shipped goods worth 2.78 billion U.S. dollars in April, the 10th month of the current fiscal year 2016-17 (July 2016-June 2017), which was about 3.49 percent higher than the same month a year ago, said the official who preferred to be unnamed.

He said the export income fell short of the target of 29.997 million dollars for the July-April period by 3.92 percent.

Bangladesh set its export target in 2016-17 fiscal year at 37 billion dollars, including about 30.38 billion dollars from readymade garment products, the EPB data showed.

In the July-April period this fiscal year, according to the official, Bangladesh earned 23.14 billion dollars from garment exports with knitted items such as T-shirts growing 4.81 percent while woven items such as jeans decreasing 0.14 percent. Endit
