107 Turkish judges, prosecutors dismissed over suspected links to Gulen

Xinhua, May 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

A total of 107 Turkey's judges and prosecutors were dismissed on Friday as part of an ongoing probe into the Gulen movement.

Turkey's High Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) dismissed these judicial officials over their alleged links to U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is accused of being behind the failed coup attempt in July 2016, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Mehmet Yilmaz, deputy chairman of HSYK, said two of the dismissed have used ByLock, an encrypted messaging application Gulenists use to communicate with each other.

A detention warrant was also issued.

According to local media, the number of dismissed judges and prosecutors as part of the ongoing investigation into the coup attempt has exceeded 4,000.

Since the failed coup, tens of thousands of people have been dismissed or suspended from public positions, hundreds of others arrested for alleged involvement in the coup or suspected links to the Gulen movement. Endit
