Man held by terrorism officers at London's Heathrow Airport

Xinhua, May 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

A 30-year-old man was arrested Thursday night at London Heathrow Airport by officers from the Metropolitan Counter Terrorism Command.

The man was arrested as he disembarked at Heathrow on a flight from Istanbul, Turkey.

A spokesman at New Scotland Yard, headquarters of the Met said: "The man has been arrested on suspicion for preparing for terrorist acts and terrorist training contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He has been taken to a south London police station where he is detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence."

The spokesman said officers were at present searching a residential address in east London.

Meanwhile the Met gave an update Thursday night on a group of people arrested in an anti-terror swoop on an address in Harlesden Road in northwest London in which a 21-year-old woman was shot and wounded by armed cops.

The Met said police had been granted warrants to continue the further detention of six women, including the shot, arrested by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command.

The other women still detained include women aged 20, 43, a 19-year-old and two 18-year-olds.

All six were arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorist acts and detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Warrants of further detention, for up to a further seven days, were granted Thursday at Westminster Magistrates' Court in respect of all six women whilst enquiries continue.

Two men, aged 21 and a 16-year-old boy arrested on April 27 either in or close to the Harlesden Road address, have been released without charge. Enditem
