1st LD: At least 13 killed in Venezuela road accident

At least 13 people died and another 37 injured in a crash between two buses in Venezuelan's northeastern state of Anzoategui early Tuesday morning, the state's governor, Francisco Rangel, announced.

Rangel told a press conference in state capital Barcelona that the accident took place in the district of El Amparo, around 400 km northwest of the capital of Caracas.

"They were returning in the morning (...) another bus was stopped and they hit," local report quoted the governor as saying.

Rangel explained that once the authorities had been alerted, rescue teams were sent to the scene around 3 a.m.. The 37 injured people have been taken to nearby hospitals.

It was reported that a number injured people belonged to the Ministry of Education and the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation, who participated in the International Workers' Day celebrations in the capital. Endit
