At least one person was killed and four others were injured Sunday in a rebel attack in northern Colombia, local authorities said.
Members of the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group allegedly detonated an explosive device as uniformed police were carrying out vehicle inspections at a road block along a highway connecting the towns of Pailitas and Tamalameque, in the northern department of Cesar.
The fatal victim was a civilian, while one of the injured was a police officer, according to the government.
Regional police commander Diego Rosero called the attack a "terrorist act" and said the police are working together with army troops to locate those responsible.
The government and ELN launched peace talks in early February in Quito, Ecuador, to end five decades of fighting, but neither side has announced a ceasefire. Endi
