Macao's package tour visitors reaches 1.7 million in Q1

Visitors to Macao on package tours in the first quarter of 2017 totaled 1.7 million, up slightly by 0.6 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region's (SAR) statistics department said on Friday.

Latest data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that visitors on package tours totaled 629,000 in March, up by 11.7 percent year-on-year and 14.5 percent month-to-month.

DSEC's data also said in the first quarter of 2017, guests of hotels and guesthouses totaled 3 million, up by 13.7 percent year-on-year. The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses increased by 5.2 percentage points to 83 percent, while the average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.4 nights. Visitor-guests accounted for 73 percent of the total overnight visitors, up by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year.

As for March alone, a total of 1.06 million guests checked into hotels and guesthouses, up by 17.3 percent year-on-year.

There were 108 hotels and guesthouses operating at the end of March. The number of guest rooms increased by 13.1 percent year-on-year to 36,000, of which 5-star hotel rooms (22,000) took up 60.2 percent. Endit
