Cuba, Seychelles vow to expand cooperation

Xinhua, April 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

Cuban President Raul Castro and his visiting Seychelles counterpart, Danny Faure, expressed mutual willingness here Thursday to further strengthen cooperation between both nations.

Castro and Faure met in a "friendly climate" and reviewed the "satisfactory" state of their bilateral ties while discussing other international issues, said a government release.

Before meeting Castro, Faure laid a wreath to Cuba' national hero, Jose Marti, at the mausoleum devoted to him at the Revolution Plaza and toured the Memorial Museum there dedicated to Marti's life and work of liberating the Caribbean nation from Spanish colonialism.

As part of his compact agenda in Havana, the African nation's leader was also received by the president of Cuba's National Parliament, Esteban Lazo. Faure expressed his confidence in solidarity and mutual support as the base of the progress for the two countries.

Faure highlighted that Cuba and Seychelles share common historic goals and development projects focused on raising the living standards of the two peoples.

The president of Seychelles arrived in Havana on Tuesday for an official visit until Saturday.

As part of his schedule in Cuba, Faure on Wednesday chaired the opening of the Seychelles Embassy in Havana, the first of the African nation in Latin America, which was considered as a historic milestone for their bilateral ties.

Cuba and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on April 12, 1978. Endi
