Barrios hat-trick raises Gremio's Libertadores hopes

Paraguay international striker Lucas Barrios scored a hat-trick as Brazil's Gremio defeated 10-man Club Guarani of Paraguay 4-1 in their Copa Libertadores group match on Thursday.

Barrios netted twice in the first half hour before adding a third goal 11 minutes from time at the Gremio Arena in Porto Alegre.

The visitors' only breakthrough came via an own goal from Leo Moura in the 34th minute.

Forward Nestor Camacho was sent off shortly after for violent conduct and it took just three minutes for the hosts to capitalize on the numerical advantage via a Geromel strike.

In Montevideo, Uruguay's Nacional overcame nine-man Chapecoense of Brazil 3-0.

Kevin Ramirez, Rodrigo Aguirre and Tabare Viudez found the target for the hosts. Chapecoense finished the match with just nine men after Luiz Otavio and Rossi were handed red cards.

In other matches on Thursday, Bolivia's Sport Boys Warnes fell 3-1 to Godoy Cruz and Argentina's Lanus drew 1-1 at Venezuela's Zulia. Enditem
