Xinhua, April 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

A man and a woman aged in their 20s were arrested on Thursday in southeast Ireland's Waterford city on suspicion of being involved in Islamic-related terrorist activities.

The man is from Ireland and the woman is from the United Kingdom, according to Irish police.

In a statement, police said they were arrested at a rented flat on suspicion of facilitating the transfer of money and information in relation to alleged international terrorist activities.

Police cordoned off the flat where the two persons were arrested and a number of items, including mobile phones and computer equipment, were seized for examination.

The arrests followed an 18-month operation led by local and national police units, with intelligence input from counter terrorism agencies in the United Kingdom.

Both are being held at Waterford police station. Endit
