A Chinese envoy to the United Nations said Wednesday that China is ready to work with other countries to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through innovation.
"Today's world is one community. Our shared future hinges on innovation," said Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN, at a commemorative event marking the World Intellectual Property Day 2017.
"China remains committed to innovation-driven sustainable growth," Liu added.
The UN co-sponsored commemorative event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the World Intellectual Property (IP) Day on April 26.
Creation and innovation have been the beacon for human civilization and the fountain nurturing human progress, said the ambassador, adding that "thanks to innovation, our lives have transformed. Our sustainable development goals, be it poverty eradication, education or healthcare, have been propelled."
Liu said at the event that China has incorporated the 2030 Agenda in China's 13th Five-Year Socio-economic Development Program and set the course of pursuing innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development.
China has also launched the campaign of "Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship," which entails a package of measures and policies to encourage creativity and entrepreneurship on an unprecedented scale, said Liu.
"We are building a national system of technological and institutional innovation, to integrate science and technology into economic and social development, to convert research into development, and to foster new drivers of development," he said.
The theme of the World IP Day this year is "Innovation -- Improving Lives," with a particular focus on women as innovators and beneficiaries of innovation for socio-economic development. Endi
