Voting Le Pen in Round Two not option for France's hard-left voters

Anti-capitalist Jean-Luc Melechon's "France unbowed movement" is organizing a consultation on second round's voting in which backing far-right Marine Le Pen "is not an option", the hard left party said on Wednesday.

"The second round will be between the candidate of the extreme right and the candidate of extreme finance. None of us will vote for the far-right," the statement said.

"Everyone knows that the movement of France unbowed is attached to the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. As a result the vote for the candidate of the extreme right will not be represented as an option," it added.

The anti-capitalist party whose nominee Melenhon failed to pass the second round, launched a consultation "to simply know the positions of the unbowed".

"This is not about a voting recommendation," the party said, noting that people who cast ballot for "France unbowed" in first round will have to choose either blank vote, or vote Emmanuel Marcon or to abstain.

The consultation started on Tuesday night and will end on May 2 at noon, with results provided in the afternoon on the same day, it added.

After first-round have been released, fourth-ranked Melenchon with 19.58 of vote, on Sunday, refused to endorse any of the top two candidates.

During the campaign, he was a harsh critic of Macron's liberal economic project and Le Pen's anti-immigration policy. However, he proposed a similar protectionist approach involving an exit form the eurozone. Endit
