Guangzhou Evergrande crush Eastern SC 6-0 in AFC Champions League

Xinhua, April 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

Two-time AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande thrashed Hong Kong's Eastern SC 6-0 in Group G of the 2017 AFC Champions League here on Tuesday.

Although the Hong Kong hosts were desperate to avoid a repeat of their huge 7-0 loss when they met last time back in February, another defeat became inevitable when Brazilian Paulinho opened the scoring account for the visitors with a header in the eighth minute.

Ricardo Gaulart added another in the 40th minute to give Guangzhou a 2-0 lead in the first half.

After the half break, the visitors kept dominating the match with ease and comfort as Alan scored his double in the 50th and 71st minutes.

Paulinho slammed home his second goal of the night eight minutes from time, before Yu Hanchao also found the net with a 90th minute free-kick to seal the win for the Chinese Super League side.

"I am satisfied with the result. Actually, in previous games, we also made lots of efforts to score, and this time we grabbed them," said Guangzhou coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"We will try our best to win the next match in Guangzhou and will be the number one in the group to advance to the next stage," added Scolari.

With matchday 6 still to come, group leaders Guangzhou sit on nine points from two wins and three draws, one more than Suwon Samsung Bluewings and a further point ahead of Kawasaki Frontale, while Eastern were eliminated with just one point. Endit
