Final results issued by the French Interior Ministry confirmed that the centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron dominated the vote in Sunday's first round of the French presidency.
Macron came first with 24.01 percent of the vote while Marine Le Pen, head of far-right National Front party (FN), came second with 21.30 percent of the vote or 47.581 million ballots for her. (France-Election)

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. on Monday slapped sanctions on 271 employees of Syria's Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) in response to Syrian government's alleged use of chemical weapons.
The employees of SSRC, a Syrian government agency, are designated for their role in "developing and producing non-conventional weapons and the means to deliver them," the U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement. (US-Syria-Sanctions)
