Germany's DAX hits record high

Germany's DAX index of the 30 major companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange hit a new high Monday.

At around 11:00 a.m. CEST, the DAX reached 12,399.91, breaking the previous record of 12,374.73 set April 10, 2015.

The market rose around 2.8 percent on the news that moderate Emmanuel Macron had won the first round of voting in the French election. Markets are optimistic Macron will beat the other candidate, right-wing Marine Le Pen in the second round on May 7. Endit
