Hong Kong stocks closed up 97.46 points, or 0.41 percent, to 24,139.48 points on Monday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as the market mood was buoyed after the first round of the French presidential election eased fears that France might leave the European Union.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 255.13 points, or 1.37 percent, from Friday to close the day at 18,875.88, marking its highest close since April 3.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 14.61 points, or 0.98 percent, to finish at 1,503.19. (Japan-Share Market)

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 4.2 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 3,144.03.

MANILA -- The Philippine stock market posted marginal gains on Monday as investors remain cautious ahead of the election in France.

The bellwether Philippine Stock Exchange index rose by 0.14 percent or 10.72 points to 7,588.88, while the broader all-share index gained 0.24 percent or 10.71 points to 4,542.81. Trading volume reached 2.19 billion shares worth 5.15 billion Philippine pesos (103.44 million U.S. dollars)with 109 stocks declining, 84 advancing, and 52 were unchanged.
