Tokyo stocks open higher on eased concerns after 1st round of French presidential race

Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as investor tension eased about the exit possibility from the European Union following the first round of France's presidential race.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 277.49 points, or 1.49 percent from Friday to 18,898.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 17.97 points, or 1.21 percent, to 1,506.55.

Electric appliance, bank and insurance-linked issues comprised early gainers. Endit
