A monitor of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) died when his vehicle drove on a mine in Ukraine, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said on his twitter on Sunday.

Kurz, who holds the OSCE's Chairperson-in-Office for 2017, said another monitor was injured in the tragedy, which occurred in a patrolling mission.

Austrian media say the vehicle was patrolling close to Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, when it drove on a mine. The person killed is said to be an American, and the injured is a German.

The Austrian foreign minister has demanded full information of the tragedy.

More than 600 OSCE monitors are deployed in the conflict region in Ukraine. Enditem
