400,000 new childcare seats made in Germany over past ten years

Over 400,000 childcare seats for under three-year-old have been newly created in Germany form 2006 to 2016, local media reported Saturday.

It has made one third of German children under three years old have access to kindergartens at present, according to the report by dpa.

Germany's public expenditures for childcare have more than doubled from 10.8 billion euros (11.6 billion U.S. dollars) to 23.7 billion euros from 2005 to 2015, the country's Family Ministry was quoted as saying.

However, Family Minister Manuela Schwesig stressed that more need to be produced despite the achieved progress, considering Germany's growing birth rate and incoming refugee children. (1 euro = 1.07 U.S. dollars) Endit
