Kuo Ai-chen fired a one-under 71 to grab a share of the second-round lead at the Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge on Friday, drawing even with Thailand' s Kanyalak Preedasuttijit (74) in Jiangsu province, China.
In the RMB500,000 China LPGA Tour event, the co-leaders were one-under 143 through 36 holes at Shuangshan Golf Club.
The 26-year-old Kuo took advantage of the calmer afternoon conditions to register three birdies to get to three-under par through 13 holes. She then posted bogeys at holes 14 and 16.
"I made three up-and-down birdies over the first three par-five holes. I just focused on every single shot. It's a good mental game today," said Kuo.
Teeing off in the early morning, overnight leader Kanyalak moved to four-under with a birdie on her first hole but then proceeded to struggle. Her round included two birdies and four bogeys.
"I hit it well as always, but the putter didn't work," said the 19-year-old rookie pro. "Tomorrow, I will try my best to stay with my plan and stay with positive thoughts. You should pay no attention to others' game and stay focused on yourself."
China's Guo Caizhu (73) was equal third one shot back with Thais Narisara Kerdrit (70) and Parinda Phokan (71). Chinese veteran Yang Taoli was two shots off the pace in sixth after a 74. Endit
