DPRK delegation visits Arab countries amid sanctions

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday sent a delegation of diplomats to visit some Arab countries amid mounting international sanctions clamped on it due to its missile and nuclear tests.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said DPRK Vice Foreign Minister Sin Hong Chol and his delegation left here to visit some Arab countries, without specifying the countries.

Earlier, Kim Jong Un, the supreme DPRK leader, exchanged messages with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the anniversaries of each others' important national events, said KCNA.

In a message sent on April 18, Assad thanked Kim for having supported Syria and its people and "always having paid attention to them overcoming the present difficulties and encouraged the Syrian stand to solve the present crisis by peaceful means based on the national dialogue such as achieving territorial integrity of Syria."

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti government also provided humanitarian aid to the DPRK for its flood damage last year.

The DPRK backed Arab countries in its wars with Israel and recognized the Palestinian state.

Pyongyang also has close ties with Egypt, whose company Orascom helped create the DPRK's cellphone network. Endi
